"I was explaining about throwing people out of windows ‹ an approved Czech execution method for many years," recalls comedian Jim Cranna about an improvisational group. "The bit turned into a thing about washing windows."
Cranna, who founded that group, The Theatre of the Deranged, is one of five comics who'll reminisce about San Francisco comedy from the '50s to the '80s at an Oct. 14 event.
Bob Sarlatte, Diane Amos and Debi Durst also will be featured on the "Small City, Big Laughs" program, sponsored by the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society (SFMHS).
The 7:30 p.m. event, free to SFMHS members and only $5 for non-members, will be hosted by Ron Muriera. It will be held in St. Francis Hall, St. Mary's Cathedral, 1111 Gough (at Geary), preceded by a 7 o'clock reception.

Anna, a single waitress, is forced to come to a decision when she gets knocked up from a one-night stand. She takes a wild ride on an express train to an unexpected destination of self-discovery, with a little help from her friends. And Ellen, just over the edge of 50 and drinking to stay afloat in a sea of disillusionment from a wasteland of a marriage and a strained relationship with her daughter Emma, discovers she is knocked up by the neighbor's 19-year-old son, with whom she is having an affair.

Frangella at Cobb's Comedy Club Second City Improv Alumni Frances Callier (former Second City LA Artistic Director and inspiration to ensembles like Oui Be Negroes and Nation of Improv) and Angela V. Shelton perform as the Comedy duo Frangella Both can be seen weekly on VH1's "Best Week Ever,"and together they are regular "Pop Cultural Pundits" on "The Today Show," "Dateline," and CNN's "Headline News," among others.
