**MEDIA RELEASE**
National American Indian Heritage Month
National American Indian Heritage Month is celebrated every year in the month of
November to honor and recognize the original peoples of this land. The first
"American Indian Day" was declared by the State of New York in 1916, but a month
long recognition of Native Americans was not achieved until 1990. In that year
President George H.W. Bush signed a joint congressional resolution designating
November 1990 as “National American Indian Heritage Month.”

Sorry if this month’s issue of The Scene looks really screwed up.
I still haven’t got my computer hooked up since I moved so I’m typing this at a computer store in Berkeley, and I’m not familiar with post-2001 computer programs.
Also, sorry I don’t have an interview with new hot band Shiny Toy Guns. I sent them some email questions just like their management requested but never heard back from them. I can’t put much of a spin on this, so, let me just say that next month’s column is bound to be better than this month’s.

"I was explaining about throwing people out of windows ‹ an approved Czech

improvisational group. "The bit turned into a thing about washing windows."
Cranna, who founded that group, The Theatre of the Deranged, is one of five
comics who'll reminisce about San Francisco comedy from the '50s to the '80s
at an Oct. 14 event.
Bob Sarlatte, Diane Amos and Debi Durst also will be featured on the "Small

*Knocked Up-*A Theater Production-Makes Its World Premiere. An
exploration of conception's life-altering complexities.
(San Francisco, CA) - KNOCKED UP, a theater adaptation of the independent full-length feature film from IMAGINATIVE
PRODUCTIONS<http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=aicp9pcab.0.0.fvgddybab.0&ts=S0351&p=http%3A%2F%2Fimaginativeproductions.com%2Findex.htm&id=preview>, is coming to San Francisco and runs September 11 through October 18, as it makes its World Premiere. With performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, held at Studio 300 Theatre, a 30 seat intimate theater one half block from Union square in the heart of San Francisco, this is an experience you won't want to miss. Studio 300 Theatre is located at 442 Post Street, 5th Floor, San Francisco, 94102. Studio 300 Theatre brought you the World Premiere of A Bowl of Rose Leaves in July and August of 2008 and the Pulitzer Prize winning play Rabbit Hole in 2007.
Knocked Up explores how three pregnancies, wanted or not, transform the lives of very different women and ultimately change their relationships with everybody and everything in the world around them.
The play was written in 2003 by Tonya Foster and was immediately made into the independent film KnockedUp <http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=aicp9pcab.0.0.fvgddybab.0&ts=S0351&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.imdb.com%2Ftitle%2Ftt1245356%2F&id=preview>.
It screened at the Short Film Corner World Market, May 2007, during the 60th CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. The play follows three women and their pregnancies. It is edgy, heart-felt and written from a totally female perspective. Pam and Will confront the collapse of their starry-eyed notions about getting and staying knocked up, while learning to deal with tearing disappointment and the bitterness it engenders, when a desperately desired pregnancy ends in miscarriage. Anna, a single waitress, is forced to come to a decision
when she gets knocked up from a one-night stand. She takes a wild ride on an express train to an unexpected destination of self-discovery, with a little help from her friends. And Ellen, just over the edge of 50 and drinking to stay afloat in a sea of disillusionment from a wasteland of a marriage and a strained relationship with her daughter Emma, discovers she is knocked up by the neighbor's 19-year-old son, with whom she is having an affair.
For more information call 1 (888) 410-8355 or email
tonya@imaginativeproductions.com.
All shows at 8 pm: Thursday-Saturday, September 11 - October 18.

Hello,
The Lupus Foundation of America is hosting their inaugural Walk for Lupus Now event in San Francisco on October 11 at The Band Shell in the Music Concourse at Golden Gate Park. I am hoping you might be able to help us get the word out to the community through your community calendar. Below is the basic information. Walk for Lupus Now is a 5K (3.1 mile) fundraising walk that raises critical funds for lupus research, education programs, and patient and family support services. This year, thousands of walkers will participate in more than 52 Walk for Lupus Now events in the United States, promoting lupus awareness, physical activity and healthy living in a family-friendly setting. They will walk to raise funds to save lives from lupus, a life-threatening autoimmune disease that damages any organ in the body and affects more than 1.5 million Americans today. The proceeds from Walk for Lupus Now are invested into each local community.

DUDE, I STOLE YOUR XBOX
On St. Patrick's Day, Jesse McPherson came home to his apartment to find his computer, his flat screen TV, and his XBox 360 stolen. Adding insult to injury, the thief had logged into Jesse's XBox Live account and left him a message, admitting to the theft and offering to sell the stolen game machine back to Jesse.
Unable to get help from the police, Jesse blogged about the incident, posting the moronic message on the web for all to hear. Blog readers soon tracked down the thief and subjected him to a barrage of online ridicule that eventually shamed him into returning the stolen gear.
Take a moronic confession of thievery posted on the internet, add an addictive rolling bassline and a cripsy tech house beat, spice it up with some old school funk sounds, and you get a simple recipe for filling up the dancefloor. Jondi & Spesh go deeper, darker, and techier into this life of crime, but emerge groovier than ever.
Momu takes the crime spree to another level with a full-on nuskool/oldskool breaks blend that is 100% booty shaking party music (more cowbell!).
